I am very happy that ABC’s Black-ish decided to address what’s going on in today’s society. This episode is full of so much emotion and “YES!” This episode gave me chills.
As a young woman who has not yet given birth to any children of my own, it is interesting to see how parents, TV or not, are addressing questions that I’ll have to one day answer to my child
ren. Sh*t; what would I say to my niblings who are clueless to what goes on in the world. That’s bittersweet, yes, but still.
The ‘Hope’ discusses things that some moms, dads, aunts, uncles, guardians, and grandparents don’t really wanna discuss with the young children in their family. Never do I want to sit down to tell my niblings or future child and have to explain to them about police brutality or the many other unfortunate happenings of the world, not only in the United States. It saddens me, honestly. The line that hit me the most is when Jr. says the situation isn’t new, the cameras are. Wow.
I love how Bow played devils advocate and had a different POV than her husband and in-laws. And no, I don’t think it’s because she’s biracial. Everything she said was true. Police brutality doesn’t happen all the time, there are good cops in the force and our justice system is right on occasion. At the same time, I agree with what Dré and his parents are saying as well. There really are a range of emotions when it comes to this episode.
To be honest, I’ve never been a fan of the show. The humor was a miss for me, the acting always felt forced. I’ve only ever watched a handful of two of episodes but after seeing the previews for it last week, I knew that tonight’s episode, I wanted to see. I do appreciate that this episode address the situations that are going on in this country. I felt like they kinda had to address it. I mean, the show is called ‘Black-ish’, after all. What else is would there be to discuss? I haven’t yet watched the extended version, so if you know where I can find it drop it in the comments below.
I’ll keep this short and end here in an effort to not go all day on a rant.
P.S. Shoutout to the fact that Between the World and Me made a cameo. I have the audiobook sitting in my iTunes and will have a review coming pretty soon, so keep an eye out for that.
Did anyone watch the episode? How did you feel about it?
