NYR: Check-In #2

Check-In #2, NYR

I must admit, not much has changed.

So, in last month’s NYR check-in, I was feeling really proud of myself. I had tackled two of my many goals for the year (which you can find here) and I was on a roll. Two goals in one month? People usually don’t make it that far, right? Well, I’m here to tell you that I haven’t made much progress since.

If you’ve read my last check-in, you’d know the two goals that I had tackled. The good thing about that is that, I haven’t lost momentum. Which is also a good thing because if I can keep this up all year, I’d be golden.

I have kinda been working on one resolution that I promised to commit to and that being more punctual.

Be more punctual!

Um, yea. Being on time is just… I don’t know. It’s not that I can’t do it, it’s just that most of the time I don’t. That goes hand in hand with my habit of procrastination. This year, I will kick both bad habits.

I have a tendency to procrastinate and push everything to the last possible second. That includes leaving the house with ample time to make it to an appointment, meet a friend, run an errand before the store closes, etc. It’s so bad that I sometimes deliberately leave room in my schedule to procrastinate. Yes, you read correctly. I’ll add in an extra 15 minutes here and there specifically to do nothing. That’s horrible. Now that I think about it, “stop procrastinating” should have been #1 on the resolutions list and not thrown in with something else. Hmmm, maybe next year. (OMG, see! There I go already, procrastinating.)

On the bright side, I have had a few dentist appointments and a few link up with friends to which I haven’t been running too late. I like to believe I have cut the “waiting on me” time to less than 10 minutes. Except that one time. But that one time was the old lady’s fault in line ahead of me who picked up every item in the store that did not have a barcode and I had to wait for her to go back and get the same items with barcodes and it took forever for her to get the items and forever for the worker to ring her up all over again instead of just getting the things for her or knowing the prices of them since she works there. Ahem, yea. That time.

The second resolution that I semi-“completed” this month was to read more.

Read, read, read.

I’ve always loved to and I need to make more time for it. I hope to read more books this year than I’ve read last year, which means I’ll have to read at least six books. I definitely think I can do that. Maybe even surpass that goal.

To read 6 books this year, I would have had to already read a book in the first two months, right. Well, I haven’t. I’ve started a book and I can be done listening to it in another say, two hours (thanks goodness for audiobooks). The book I decided to start my reading journey off with is Ta-Nehisi Coates’ Between the World and Me. I would tell you more about it but you can click the link to read more or wait until I post my review, which will be up in a week or so.

That’s all I’ve got for now.  How are  you guys holding up with you resolutions? I hope you haven’t given up yet! Let’s continue the conversation below, I’d love to here what you guys are up to.
